Genealogy Journey

This part of my trip took me way into South Carolina's Sumter National Forest.  Some long lost graves of my maternal ancestors were discovered a few years ago by a hunter.  My cousin, Ned Sloan, had markers done to "tell their story."  What an honor to see them in person...and thanks to another cousin, SCM, who guided me through the woods!!!

We had lunch at SCM's historic country house....located near the sites of our family's former plantations.

Vintage picture of SCM's restored plantation house.
Just snapped with my iPhone.  It's in a frame and the glass is reflecting...sorry!
Love the original family member in the hoop skirt!!

If you have ever seen Mel Gibson's movie, The Patriot, you have seen this part of South Carolina.  It is absolutely beautiful...and still very bucolic!

SCM and I paid a quick visit to one of his hunting buddies, and I must say, his house had one of the prettiest views I have ever seen.  More pictures to come next week.... Have a great weekend!

Catching Up

Was too busy...and having too much fun to post this past week....but am catching up now!  Here is a song I LOVE to listen to while driving.  As a matter of fact, the first time I heard it was only a few weeks ago, while on a car trip.  Love my Sirius-XM Channel 19!  Enjoy....

On The Road Again

John Wesley McMeekin and Elizabeth Hunter McMeekin,
my great-great grandparents

What a week!  Said "good-bye" to another couple of volunteer commitments and had company come and go.  So, no posts..... Sorry!

This week will be a busy one, traveling to South Carolina for some genealogy fun...and I promise to keep you posted as best I can, from the road.  I will at least use my Twitter and Instagram accounts, even if I can't post every day.

Have a great weekend!  More soon!!

Cheers,
Liz

Checking In

So sorry to still be "missing in action."  What a week....Closing a few chapters in volunteerism, but more importantly, mourning the passing of one of the most amazing men I have ever known.  A great guy, wonderful husband, loving father....there just aren't enough words to describe our friend, Dennis.

On this rainy day, we said our last Earthly farewell.  He is in the light of the Lord now...but we surely miss him.

I'll be back next week...but, in the meantime, live each day to the fullest.  My friend, Dennis, did.  Each of the days of his 55 years was spent that way. What an inspiration to us all!
