Classic Style: Blue and White

Carolyne Roehm is known for many things, but especially for marvelous work in blue and white.  Such a clean, crisp look...and one that works in any season, with many colors and for almost all design styles!

I have always been a fan of blue and white....

....and I find that I can mix less expensive modern pieces

...with harder to find antiques.

My house is French in design, with wonderful light and open spaces.  For the most part, the walls are very neutral, so I don't have pictures to show you with blue and white mixed with color.  But, click over to this wonderful article on Monograms and Manicures to revisit Hopsy's kitchen re-do.  Isn't her blue and white magnificent on that bold pink?

The Gracious Home

Photos courtesy of www.newyorksocialdiary.com
Home is the place you create in which to live some of the most precious moments of your life.  It is the mental, spiritual and emotional base where you welcome your friends, entertain honored guests and, on occasion, withdraw to your "quiet place."

A house (apartment, condo, etc.) is the physical place in which you live.  It has form and function and its beauty is derived from its architecture, its situation/placement and a number of other things.

Both can be warm, inviting, elegant, cozy...the list goes on and on.  Both demand hard work!

I think you will enjoy this article from the archives of The New York Social Diary, in which Ms. Roehm welcomes the writers and photographer into her New York home!  (Her apartment is exquisite.....She gave us a marvelous virtual tour in her talk this Monday!!)

Enjoy!  Tomorrow we'll visit Ms. Roehm's historic house in Connecticut and learn more about her passion for blue and white.....

Cheers, Liz

Divine Design

I cannot tell you how excited I was to know that Carolyne Roehm was coming to Richmond to speak at The Woman's Club.  Ms. Roehm and Charlotte Moss are my two favorite "go-to" style mavens. As you may remember, I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon with Ms. Moss only a few months ago.  Although I only met Ms. Roehm briefly as she was signing books after her talk, she was gracious and hospitable in every way.  Both women are American treasures.  They have redefined classic elegance for the modern age.

Just as I did after meeting Ms. Moss, I am going to spend the rest of the week writing about Carolyne Roehm......There's so much to say!!

I am also going to make sure we all see a little bit of spring today...even though there is still snow on the ground here in Richmond!  Poor Ms. Roehm....we invite her to our beautiful city, to see some of our gardens as the flowers first pop up to welcome the spring....and this is what my backyard looked like the day she arrived....

So, to enjoy a little bit of spring, let's join Ms. Roehm as she tells us about creating her marvelous new book, Flowers.  Just click to watch. To the right of this post is a link where you can buy Flowers from Amazon.  I encourage you to do so today....It is a stunning book, and Amazon currently has it for a very special price!  Enjoy!

Cheers, Liz

Thursday Thoughts

Shouldn't our sweet pets have the chance to be as preppy as we are?  Of course!

Look at these precious dog coats that I found on Etsy! (Click on the sentence for more..)

Here's what the Etsy owner says about her coats.....so be sure to check out her site!

I search for vintage fabrics and items and repurpose them into adorable doggie wear….  I am sewing as fast as I can and will always be posting new items and expanding my shop. I have been selling various items for over ten years on E-bay and have just decided to move to Etsy.  I think the site best suits my style and customer base.  I will also be adding Preppy clothing items to my site.
