Genealogy Journey

This part of my trip took me way into South Carolina's Sumter National Forest.  Some long lost graves of my maternal ancestors were discovered a few years ago by a hunter.  My cousin, Ned Sloan, had markers done to "tell their story."  What an honor to see them in person...and thanks to another cousin, SCM, who guided me through the woods!!!

We had lunch at SCM's historic country house....located near the sites of our family's former plantations.

Vintage picture of SCM's restored plantation house.
Just snapped with my iPhone.  It's in a frame and the glass is reflecting...sorry!
Love the original family member in the hoop skirt!!

If you have ever seen Mel Gibson's movie, The Patriot, you have seen this part of South Carolina.  It is absolutely beautiful...and still very bucolic!

SCM and I paid a quick visit to one of his hunting buddies, and I must say, his house had one of the prettiest views I have ever seen.  More pictures to come next week.... Have a great weekend!
