A Wonderful Week : Celebrating Another Year

Lilly Pulitzer (the company) and I have something in common....We were both born in 1959!  (Actually, Lilly would say "1959-ish"...) And, as I approach March and my 53rd birthday, I do believe we can both be considered real classics.

Isn't this a fun video? I love, love, LOVE the color!! Just the thing to remind us all that spring is on the way!

Last week Younger Daughter and I went to our favorite Virginia Lilly location (Williamsburg's Ocean Palm) and loaded up from their great sale to start the birthday celebration. Next week we run down to Palm Beach/Delray Beach for a few days and go to C. Orrico, the Lilly mecca. Hmmmm.....Better leave some room in the suitcase for the return trip.

Soon I will be taking some pictures of my home office and its new colorful, cheery vibe...all thanks to Lilly!!

Today is supposed to be rainy and gloomy around here...but not for me!  I am putting on my pink  Lilly sweater coat and making my own sunshine!!!

Cheers,
Liz

A Week Off

I am taking a week or so off to get some things done around here and face an avalanche of email that I received last week.  Sometimes you just have to step back and prioritize!

I will see you soon!

Friday Finds: Affordable Elegance

There are some things in life that are really worth having....although buying them brand new in a retail store is not always the only option.  I have been a  big fan of eBay since they first opened for business, and have only once bought a luxury item that turned out to be what I am pretty sure was an imitation.  It was hard to tell....it was a "very expensive" handbag that I got for a very good deal...but eventually the brass chipped and discolored.  That hasn't happened with any of the other pieces from this company that I own (that were bought from the company's retail establishments).

How do you avoid the fakes?  It's hard to tell sometimes.  Usually if it's "too good to be true," it is....unless someone is selling something they really don't know the value of.  I bought a great Tiffany & Co. T-clip pen and pencil set a couple of months ago that way.  The seller knew they were sterling, but assumed the gold bands in the middle of the pen were vermeil (gold plated sterling).  I knew those pens well from my days at Tiffany's...and I knew they were 14K bands.  Score!!

Doing some research online yesterday, I realized that there are now some companies that act as expert consignment shops.  They research and authenticate their items, and then sell them for reasonable prices.  One of those, which seems like a very good place to shop (*although I have never bought from them and cannot personally vouch for them) is www.yoogiscloset.com

Or, if shoes are your thing, these Jimmy Choo sandals can be yours for $185!

I'll be doing more research in the days to come....
But for now, enjoy these Friday Finds!
Have a great weekend!!

Wednesday Wonders: Refracted Light

The Tiffany setting.....probably the world's simplest and most famous diamond setting....came along all those years ago to lift a stone into the light....so the light could shine through the many facets of the ring. Refraction gives it its sparkle!

Love this new video from TCO!

Extra credit question:  The soundtrack is from a famous mid-1990's movie.  One of my favorites!!
Can you name it???

This morning when I stepped on the scale, I was almost 2 pounds lighter and I had dropped into a different "decade"!  10 pounds down since January 1st.....Life is good!!

Tuesday Thoughts: Preppy By Definition

Loved this definition of "preppy" from the Urban Dictionary....especially since they list my hometown of Delray Beach as a place for preppies to vacation!  (Actually it was a pretty preppy place to live, especially if you lived there only for "the season.")  What do you think?  Do you agree with this definition?  Do you fit it?  What would you add to it (or subtract from it)??  Cheers! Liz

Preppy

A true preppy is someone who:
Wears, but is not limited to, Polo, Lilly, Brooks Brothers, Lacoste, LL Bean (ie duck boots), ribbon belts, prints (ie cords with embroidered whales, palm trees, etc), sweaters tied around the neck, collar always popped, looks neat and put together. Hair ribbons or ribbon headbands, pearls, and other classic jewelry pull the look together. Preppies are partial to monogrammed and engraved items (ie tote bags, oxford shirts, jewelry, money clips, etc). Colors are always brite (favorites include pink and lime green). Preppies may not always match EXACTLY but they are always coordinated. Hats are worn (ie polo player, Lacoste, Brooks Brothers), but they are unique- not designs you would see in the mainstream and the "mall".
My daughters and nieces, Delray Beach 2004
Preppies often attend prep schools (ie Middlesex School, Governor Dummer Academy, and Belmont Hill) followed by New England private colleges.
They are confident and unafraid to express their own styles and be daring in their fashions. Preppies vacation on Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Delray Beach, and on the coast of Maine. These vacation locales are places their families have been going to for years, and have histories there.
It is a common misconception that preppies are snobs. Many people view them as unapproachable, and as a result mislabel them. Preppies are not as rich as people may think they are, but they are often well off. They buy into classics rather than trends, and don't change their lifestyles with fads.
Preppies tend to have bizarre connections with other preppies they meet, always finding mutual friends/ family and people that run in the same circle.

Preppies don't:
* Wear tight, skin exposing clothing (ie fitted Abercrombie sexual t-shirts with tight flared jeans)
* Limit themselves to mall shopping and chain stores. They gravitate towards long-established classic stores and boutiques unique to quaint New England towns.
* Wear heavy makeup and endless hair products. The phrase "less is more" is a preppy creed.
* Glue purses to their arms, especially when going to school. Lip gloss and if need be, a wallet, are thrown into tote bags along with books.
"Les whispered to Tyler that Linds looked very preppy with her pink popped Pulitzer, cable knit cardigan and pearls."

Monday Morning Quarterbacking

I did watch part of the game....mainly to see the halftime show....which I LOVED!!  Madonna rocked it.....but then again, we are almost the same age, so what she did was right up my alley.  (Ms. M.I.A. needs a few etiquette lessons, though!!)

My weekend was tremendously busy...but so much fun!  My dear friend was here as the special guest for our CBS affiliate's Healthy Lifestyle Expo.  We had cars picking us up, security guards escorting us around and we met thousands of people.  (I was serving as part of her entourage, but it was a great glimpse into the world of celebrities!)

The yoga class she led was great, too, and is featured on CBS-6's YouTube channel.  Here's a quick glimpse:

I also got to meet and spend time with  Stepp Stewart (Dr. Oz's fitness guru) and celebrity chef Nathan Lyon. They were amazing!.....Both very talented and so nice!! (Check out Nathan's new cookbook. It is terrific!!)
