Where Is The Classic Preppy...And Who's She With??

I know these pictures are confusing....and I was going to write more...but it's time to be by the pool or in the ocean.  More, soon...I promise!  In the meantime...one very special little spot:

One of my favorite childhood spots.  It's a long story, but I can tell you
that it involves Miss Betty, FAO Schwarz and Schrafft's.
( If you are too young to remember Schrafft's then Google it!)

On Holiday

Note to self....when meeting a friend for lunch while you are "on holiday," be sure to wear full make up and an attractive ensemble, in case said friend is a professisonal photographer and you might end up in an international online publication days later!  LOL  (It is a very good article, though...so just cover your eyes when you get to my picture!! New York Social Diary.)

For those of you who arrived at my blog through the link in the article,
WELCOME TO THE CLASSIC PREPPY!

This has been the best vacation ever!  Surrounded by family and friends, we have enjoyed beautiful weather and terrific company.  Fine dining and amazing shopping. I will post some more highlights by tomorrow, but for now, a picture of me and my BFF from childhood... 20 people for dinner Tuesday. 13 on Wednesday and more fun tonight.  Seeing old friends is just the best.

Life. Is. Good.

Thursday Thoughts: Off Again!

Getting ready to hit the road again....will be tweeting and blogging some, too!  Stay tuned for more...

Also wanted to share some vintage travel pics....

This is the kind of plane I used to spend a lot of time in.

And an airport I knew every part of.  Loved the mini-arcade across from the United counter!

Do you recognize this airport?  I also spent a lot of time going in and out of here. If you were a child in the 60's or 70's and went to camp in the Carolinas
(I didn't....liked sleeping late in the summertime!), then you probably went in and out of this airport!

Wednesday Wrap Up: More From New York Social Diary

On the side bar of this site, you will see a link to the New York Social Diary, for an article written by their Palm Beach columnist, Augustus Clemmer Mayhew.  Clemmer and I are separated by a few years in age (I won't say who is older/younger!), so I didn't know him growing up....but I found out that he was an good friend of a dear friend of mine, when he mentioned her in his column a while back. Our mutual friend put us all together for lunch last year when I was in Florida, and we have been fast friends ever since.

Another friend from Florida, whose mother was a friend of Miss Betty's,  Facebook messaged me last September, asking my advice on some historic photographs he had.  My friend knew that I was big into historic preservation of all kinds:  architectural, photographic, etc.  When he told me what/whom these photographs were of...and how many albums he had in his possession, I know he could hear the thud 1000 miles away, as I hit the floor.  This was an amazing treasure!!!  These photos had never been seen outside the family!  I immediately put him together with Clemmer, who is also the former archivist for the Historical Society of Palm Beach.  The outcome of all of this are the original article (side bar) and two additional articles, which appeared this week on NewYorkSocialDiary.com.  They are fascinating reading.....so get a cup of tea or coffee...or a glass of wine, if it's later in the day.....and dive in!

Philadelphia In Palm Beach, Part II

Philadelphia In Palm Beach, Part III

I am heading back to the sunny shores of Florida in a matter of days....and can't wait to catch up with my buddies and "talk history!"

Enjoy....

Cheers!

Monday Madness: Chaos, Cleaning, Consulting

Whew! There is a lot to get done this week, but a lot of fun and exciting things happening, too. Plans are being made for a couple of events this fall, and I am in way over my head, but having a simply marvelous time.

Because I am too crazed to write anything intelligent today, I thought you might like this recent article about Jack Rogers from Town & Country. (Their copyright..hope it's ok to post!) My hair stylist complemented me on my pink and white ones this morning, and it made me remember I had torn out this article for my Classic Preppy readers!!

Thursday Thoughts: I'm Back

I am so sorry I haven't blogged in awhile...I have been traveling non-stop this summer, and have been super busy since returning to Richmond.  (Will pick back up with the blog on Monday....)

Started off in June with a quick trip to L.A. to see friends and family! Love, love, LOVE the Long Beach Airport....so easy to get in and out. Charming and oh-so-retro/Art Deco!

Was all over southern California, and fell in love with Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes, Santa Monica and Venice Beach.  Absolutely adored the historic architecture of some of the buildings on the Venice Beach boardwalk...although much of it was covered in non-historic paint and graffiti.

Be sure to try Nelson's (click on the name to see the view!) if you are in the area....On the site of a beautiful resort where Marineland used to be, the food is delicious, the view is great and the vibe is fun!

Back to the east coast on the red-eye (with a two hour drive back from Dulles), I was raring to go (a few days later) back to the Carolinas and Georgia.  Had such a great time with family on that trip.....and especially enjoyed a return trip to the North Georgia mountains/Lake Rabun and the Dillard House.  The table was laden with veggies and other goodies and I was a bad, bad girl.  Had to have the sweet tea to go with it, too!  However, when I returned from this trip and went off the next weekend for a quick July 4th jaunt, I returned to my good eating habits!

There are two special food places in my life, that even with my new and improved eating program, I will never be able to pass up if I am in the area.  One is Duke's in Greenville, SC, and the other is Steak N' Shake.....and they now have one in Fredericksburg, right off I-95!
