Wednesday Wrap Up

Well, I was hoping to get some time today to sit down and write about my travels....but had too much to do.  Hope to get to that by Friday, but I will share one quick story....

The last day of my five day trip to LA was to be spent with my dear friend, Judith.  If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you will know of whom I speak.  My friend, Judith Chapman, is an actress who is based in LA.  Currently she is starring as Gloria Fisher on The Young and the Restless and doing a lot of theatre as well.  Sadly (for me), our day together had to be indefinitely postponed, as CBS decided to send Judith and two of her co-stars to Monaco to represent them at the International Film Festival.  I had a great day in LA, nonetheless...and as you can see from this video, Judith had fun at a fan luncheon. (She is in the black and white dress.)

Au revoir!

Tuesday Treat: Meet My Cousin

I actually have not met this cousin, but look forward to doing so one day...

Her name is Karla Causey, and she is my second cousin once removed. When my dear cousin saw a video of my daughter playing guitar, she suggested my daughter and this young woman should meet and play together one day. I agree!!

Karla is AMAZINGLY talented and if you are in North Carolina, she is doing a lot of dates in the Charlotte area this summer. Go hear her!!

Better scoot! Today is Younger Daughter's 15th birthday and little Lucy (our dog) is turning 6 today, too. Younger Daughter LOVES the fact they share this special day, so it's always fun....

More tomorrow!

Whirlwind Wednesday: Back From L.A. And On To More Adventures

Hi!  Had a marvelous time in the LA area last Thursday through Monday.  Took the red-eye back and arrived home Tuesday at 5:30am.  Needless to say, I hit the hay as soon as I walked through the door!!

Will be writing more later....because now I am unpacking and repacking, heading off again at the crack of dawn on Friday.  This trip will be a road trip and will encompass four states.  Going to be seeing lots of family again, and am super excited!

For your reading pleasure today, be sure to check out the fabulous article (click here) on the Stork Club in today's New York Social Diary.  The Stork Club and El Morocco were two of Miss Betty's favorite places when she lived in New York in her 20's. (Click here to learn more about El Morocco!) She and her sister, Frances, who also moved there, seemed to have the most marvelous social life...just like something you'd see in a classic movie on TCM!  Although I don't have any pictures of them in nightclubs together, I do have this great picture from their trip on the Queen Elizabeth in 1951.  I love the days when people "dressed for dinner," don't you?

It was my late Aunt Frances' son and his family, that I went to see in California.  There just aren't words enough to tell you what a good time I had, but I will try to do some justice to it when I write about it tomorrow!

Cheers!

Friday Find: It's All In The Planning

We all think of summer as being a time to kick back and relax....Well, the best way to do that is to plan and organize, so you can have as much fun as possible.  I have not always been the best planner/packer, etc...but I am getting better!  While I am traveling over the next few days, I thought I would leave you with this great video from ClutterDiet.com ....

Thursday Thoughts: Vacation Part I

Just a brief jaunt....to see some dear family.  Leaving my family at home as they are busy elsewhere, but so excited to see one of my BFF's (and dear cousin), who is the granddaughter of Miss Betty's younger sister.  She is a precious child, and she and "Cousin Liz" are very tight!  Can't wait to hit the playground!!  I am also excited about seeing her dad (my first cousin), her mom and her brother!

Where am I going?  Follow me on Twitter to find out....but here are a couple of clue pictures!

See you next week!

Cheers!

Wandering Wednesday: Bonjour, Paris!

Over the next few weeks, I will be in and out, up and down and all across the country....but not out of it.  Not this year.  Sadly,  Paris is not one of my destinations this summer....although it is one of my favorite cities and each time I have been I have fallen more in love with it!

So busy trying to pack, that I thought you might excuse my not writing and enjoy these videos instead.... Kay Thompson, author of the Eloise books is featured, along with the always elegant Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn.

And this wonderful modern interpretation by Kay Thompson's goddaughter....Liza!

Tuesday Tidings

Off topic. Non-preppy. But....fascinating!

I have been working with a friend of mine who is an author....Want you to see the amazing film/slide show that tells the story of her daughter's healing of Crohn's Disease. It was truly miraculous!

Monday Madness

It's a little crazy around here today, so I didn't have time to write....but in the meantime.....

I saw this commercial on TV the other night and it really tickled me! Enjoy!!!

Thursday Thoughts: Preppy Board Games

I love, love, LOVE the game of backgammon.  If you grew up where I did, then learning was mandatory.  After all, one had to have something to do at the beach club when those afternoon thunderstorms moved in!  A cozy cabana, your BFF, and a backgammon board meant that you were set!  (My BFF and I will be back on that same beach this summer....and I am bringing my board!!)

I have lost count of the number of boards I have, but my favorite is my original, from my youth.  It is a "briefcase" type of board, and the handle has even fallen off....but it brings back such memories to use it!

Saw this cute board online (from Preppy Cards)....and found a terrific blog to go with it!  Check out Stylebeat ....I know you will love it!

Have a great Thursday....I should be doing some more decluttering, but think I will go out to the pool and "think" about what I have to do, rather than actually "do" it!

Wednesday Weekend Update

Had a great weekend in North Georgia.....some of which was spent rocking on the upper deck of this incredible boathouse on one of my favorite lakes.  The picture below is of the view from said rocking chair.  A little piece of heaven on earth!!

The graduation was flawless....gorgeous evening and a stadium full of proud parents and friends! I was so proud of my cousins...both the graduate and his marvelous mom....They are two of my favorite folks.

On this trip, I not only spent time with precious family, I made lots of new friends, too! One of the places I went with those new friends (besides that gorgeous lake!) was the always amazing Dillard House.  I hadn't been there since I was a child.  It was one of my parents' favorite places and we would drive over from Highlands (North Carolina) for lunch.  It is Southern cooking at its very finest, and I just love it that when they take you to your table, your food is there.  There is no "ordering"....it's all set out for you, and there is a lot to choose from.  I have never had pole beans that were that good in my life!!

We ended the day with an early evening boat ride and returned home tired, but so happy.  More wonderful conversation, that lasted late into the night....and then it was off to the airport the next day.  Had a perfect flight back home and was greeted by Dear Husband and both daughters, who then took me out to dinner.  Life just doesn't get any better!!!....The only downside to the weekend was that there were friends and family in the area (metro Atlanta and northeast Georgia) that I didn't get to see.  I am going back for sure....and soon....so I hope to make up for that!!
