Tiffany & Co. Tuesday

Back when I was working for Tiffany & Co., the policy was that with few exceptions, the jewelery was always photographed on its own. Now models abound and Tiffany's is more and more creative in their advertising...a little "off the hook," so to speak. Thought you might enjoy this video that features the new Tiffany Locks!

Musical Monday: Albannach

Spent a beautiful weekend in Maryland....If you have never been to Fair Hills, you should go sometime.  It is beautiful.  Younger Daughter was dancing in the Highland Games there and we were delighted to see our old friends from Scotland there (for the first time)....Albannach.  If you have never seen them perform, find them when they are on tour in the USA and go.  They are amazing!

Wonderful Wednesday: River City Edition

Good morning! Just got back from my walk.....4.5 miles. I can't believe I walked that far. This is a whole new world for me and I am loving it (and feeling better than I have in years!!).

Today I set out, not sure where I would venture, and I found myself walking in the direction of my old house on Monument Avenue. I made it all the way there and back! 1 hour and 20 minutes, since I am not fast....but a good walk in beautiful weather.

Have you ever been to Richmond? These two young men produced the funniest video about it and featured my old neighborhood! The two houses you see pictured at the middle of the video, when they talk about living on Monument are my former neighbors. I was so excited that my good friend Susan's house was featured (the Mediterranean house)....It's lovely!

This picture is from a new blog I have discovered, which seems like a lot of fun! Check it out.... .

Traditional Thursday: National Historic Preservation Month

One of my biggest passions is historic preservation. So blessed to live in a historic city, I have been involved since we moved here....and I have stayed involved in my hometown as well. So, I couldn't let this opportunity pass....I had to let you know (if you didn't know already) that this is National Historic Preservation Month! You can find out more by visiting the National Trust For Historic Preservation's website.

There are events happening all over the country in celebration this check out what's happening in your area.  Also, find out what organizations serve you area and see how you can join/help.  You will have a lot of fun...and that's a promise!!

I have a lot of historic houses that are dear to my heart.  I already shared with you the story of my grandmother's family house.  Another of them (the house I grew up in) I am using as a teaching tool on online documentation of a historic (or historic-to-be) property.  That website is here.  (To read the article to the left, click on the pic and then click once more to enlarge.) Also, in working with the historic organizations that exist in my hometown, I realized there was not one website that connected all the groups, so I put together a simple blog called Historic Delray.  It was free, and a lot of fun...and I add to it as people send me things, or as I find interesting things.  It's just my little contribution to the efforts of so many who are "on the ground" there.  Look around your community....Is there anything like that you might be interested in doing? A lot of you are bloggers, so you already have the skills!  Go forth, and conquer!!

Happy Historic Preservation Month!!

Tuesday Tips: Etiquette Week Edition

It's National Etiquette Week, and since I have consulted in that area for almost 30 years (gulp!), I will share with you three interesting facts....

1.  Believe it or not, teaspoons are not set on the table in a proper ("formal") place setting.  A soup spoon may be placed to the right of the plate, as may a dessert spoon (which can also go above the plate).  A teaspoon is brought in with the cup and saucer.  If you are serving tea or coffee with any meal and the cup and saucer are on the table, the spoon goes in the saucer, beside the cup.

2. R.s.v.p., which is an abbreviation for "Please respond" in French, already contains "please"....that's the s.v.p. never say "R.s.v.p. please."  Also, if you choose to spell it out completely, the first word is "Repondez," which means respond.  One of the most common mistakes here is people thinking the word is "Respondez" with an "s."  (The entire thing is: "Repondez s'il vous plait.")

3. Asparagus may be eaten with the fingers!  I's odd, but true.....check it out in Tiffany's Table Manners for Teenagers.

In celebration of etiquette week, write a personal note to a friend, have dinner with the family with the table beautifully set, or have your children practice making introductions between people.  Etiquette makes the world go round!!

Magnificent Monday

Usually I would call this "Marvelous Monday".....but I feel simply magnificent today, so I need to kick it up a notch!!

So happy to say that the "reboot" I talked about last week is going well. So well in fact, that I have decided to do a journal of sorts online. I figure if nothing else, it will keep me accountable to someone besides myself. You can reach that blog from the link on the right of this page, or you can simply visit to go there directly!

Have a great day!  Shine on!!

Au revoir!

Traditional Thursday: The Baby Carriage/Pram

My mother had a beautiful English baby carriage/perambulator ("pram"), when my brother and I were little....which then was loaned to a dear friend, but never returned. How I wish I had it when my babies came along! I thought about buying a new one, but in the early 90's they were still about $1000 and since I lived in a place with no sidewalks, I just couldn't rationalize having one. I will tell you this, though....when I have grandchildren, it's the first thing I am going to buy!

Judging from past royal choices, I am sure Kate and William will have a pram when their time comes along. And it will most likely be from Silver Cross. Don't you just love their prams? I do!

P.S.  I just had to add a couple of other pictures from my early days in Virginia Beach, because those who "push the pram," whether parents or caregivers can often become a very special part of a child's life....After all, theirs are the faces we see as a baby....the faces that show us love.  These pictures include my infant-toddler BFF, Alice.  Actually, Alice and her husband, Earl, were my buddies from birth until I was almost 3, and we left Virginia Beach.  My memories are few, but precious, because I clearly remember their warmth, kindness and love.

Wednesday Around The World

Last week we all spent a lot of "virtual" time in England..... Today let's head on over to Greece!!

I saw the preview of this film in a movie theatre here in Richmond, and couldn't wait to see it.... but don't think the film actually made it to the theatre.  So I ended up renting it from Netflix, and it is one of my favorite "feel good" movies.  I have noticed that HBO has been playing it the last week or so (including on their widescreen HD channel).  If you haven't seen "My Life In Ruins," give it a go.....It's fun!!! (The YouTube clip has ads at the bottom, but you can x out of them.)

Tuesday Tips: Getting (Staying) Healthy And Feeling Great!

This is a long post and has two medium length videos in it. Please take the time to read/view everything. I promise you...It's a "don't miss!"

Two things run in my family.....bad hair and good skin.  Luckily, a lot can be done at the hair salon ("better living through chemistry").....but skin can only be so good working from the outside in.  You have to work from the inside out!!  I had noticed my skin had gotten dull and a bit saggy, and although I know at my age (52) I can only expect so much, I wasn't happy with what I was seeing.  Every picture I had taken had to be digitally corrected to make it look decent. Remembering my mother's advice about drinking lots of water and eating properly, I decided to turn my attention back to all of that.  It didn't take long before I noticed results, too.  The other day I was getting ready to Skype someone and noticed that I looked "better" on the video camera. So I did a screen capture and was pleased to see things turning around.  I also decided that the light coming through the window in this room was good for Skyping! And right after taking this photo I saw something on Twitter that just "hit me where I lived"....

One of the people I follow on Twitter is India Hicks, whom we heard a lot from during the royal wedding.  One of India's tweets involved "giving up Diet Coke," which immediately caught my attention, because I was doing the same thing.  In her tweet, she referred to her friend Joe Cross, his movie (Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead) and his website, so I immediately checked it out!  Loved what I saw, and went to iTunes to see the movie.  All I can say is, you must see it.....must, must, MUST!!  Here's a preview....(This is the extended trailer and is worth every second!...and if you click on the blue link above, you can visit the movie's website.  The movie is on Pay Per View on Verizon right now as well as other cable/satellite companies.)

As you may remember from an earlier post, my friend Jack LaLanne first introduced me to juicing.

Joe Cross takes it a step further and really shows you how your body reacts to proper nutrition. I did my last juice fast in 2008, before my mother ("Miss Betty") died. She died in December 2008, and my mother-in-law died in February 2009. Dear Husband and I were both executors of the estates....and both estates were out of state. What did that mean? Stress, travel and bad eating. I won't say how many pounds I gained, but it was significant for me....and I have had a hard time removing all of them. So.....

Next week I am doing another juice fast to help get my body in a healthier state. Not sure how I am going to journal it...may do something here on the blog, or may not. If you are interested in seeing a blog that is a journal of a juice fast, then I recommend you check out Tracy Jai Edwards' blog! I found it through a link on Joe's Facebook page....and I kept thinking Tracy looked familiar. She is an actress in NY, so you may have seen her on Broadway. Here is a recent video from her last day of juice fasting/first day of returning to eating fruits and vegetables as part of a 21 day cleanse.

As Jack, Joe,Tracy or I would tell you....none of us are doctors, so you certainly should consult yours if you are thinking about any kind of a cleanse or fast. One of the things I enjoyed most about Joe's movie was the fact that a couple of different physicians were involved in the process and most particularly in the journey of a man he came upon in Winslow, Arizona. You have to see the movie to see his story!

OK.....That's enough for today, but before I go, please check out the two videos. You can also follow Joe and Tracy on Facebook and Twitter. Just check out their websites, or click on my Twitter link on the right, as I follow both!

More to follow...

Marvelous Monday: Amazing People, Places And Things

What a marvelous Monday!  I am still celebrating the wonderful royal wedding and thanking God for what has happened with Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda!  I am also making a serious personal commitment for the month of May to eat well, exercise and get ready for all the amazing plans we have for this summer. (I was doing well at this at the beginning of the year, but started to slack off in March and April!  Oops!!!)

On this marvelous Monday I also wanted to share a special person's story with you.  I have lost count of the times I have seen her commercial, but I think it is terrific and I enjoy it each time I see it.  It wasn't until the other day, though, after reading a local article, that I realized this young woman was from our former church, and someone I remember very clearly from her childhood days, as I knew her mother fairly well.  She was a sweet child, and it looks like she has become an awesome young adult, which is no surprise.  Just wanted to give her a shout-out here at and say "Go, Cecelia!!!"

Name Cecelia
Age 21
Height 5'3"
Was 192 lbs
Lost 72.5 lbs*
Weight 119.5 lbs
