Monday Merriment

THE BOTTLE OF WINE

For all of us who are married, were married, wish
you were married, or wish you weren't married, this
is something to smile about the next time you see a
 bottle of wine:

Sally was driving home from one of her business
trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly
Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped
the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like
 a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into
 the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make
a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old
woman just sat silently, looking intently at
everything she saw, studying every little detail,
until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to
 Sally.

'What in bag?' asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, 'It's
a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.'

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or
two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder,
 she said:

 'Good trade.....'

Friday Find....And Weekend Fun

One of a Preppy's favorite activities is a good game of backgammon!  However, it's not always easy to find someone to play....

My favorite way to keep up on my backgammon skills is to play the online Motif version.  You are playing against the computer and not another person....and it's great for skill building!

Check it out here! Motif Backgammon

Tuesday Treat

Ok....I follow enough blogs to know that a lot of you watch those "Real Housewives" shows (at least on occasion).  When I watch...which I admit I do..... it's basically because I really can't believe what I am seeing.  Sometimes you really need to turn away...it's so awful.

However...for those of you who like to be in the know....  There is an executive assistant at Bravo who has been tweeting about all the inside scoop.  From what I understand, a lot of what he/she has reported as later turned out to be true and very accurate.  The items are "blind," but it doesn't take much to figure out which HW they mean.

You can check it out here: Real Bravo Snitch on Twitter

That's your "Tuesday Treat" for the week...Enjoy!

Wonderful Wednesday and the Amazing Structures on the 2010 Most Endangered List

Historic Preservation is my passion....and I am involved in many efforts here in Virginia, out in Colorado, and in my "home town," Delray Beach, Florida. A lot of exciting things are happening...but many projects are teetering on the edge, too. What's happening in your hometown? Find out and see how you can help!

Here's what's happening in the state of Florida....and four of them are very significant to me: the Bonnet House, the Royal Poinciana Playhouse, Miami Marine Stadium and the old Boynton Beach High School. Congrats to the Florida Trust on their awesome new website (www.floridatrust.org). Check out this video from their YouTube channel, too!

A Little Sad Today.....

Remembering my dear friend, who was the son of one of Miss Betty's very closest friends (the author, Catherine Marshall).  I just heard from Peter a few weeks ago, and we were remembering all the fun we had with him in Philly in 2007. I still can't believe he has left us.

Go with God, Peter!

Madras Monday: Elegance

Classic preppy chic can be summed up in one word: Elegance.

Photo from New York Social Diary.com

The epitome of elegance is Miss Olivia de Havilland....Melanie Wilkes from Gone With the Wind..... who was just honored in France. In her 90's now, she is every bit as elegant as she was in the 1930's!

Check out the article here (scroll all the way down).

Wonderful Wednesday

This has been a wonderful day...a wonderful week as a matter of fact......but I have been so busy!  My apologies for not posting more.  May have to play "catch-up" this weekend....

In the meantime, here's a little something I just found on Brooks Brothers.com.  I love this length (just like wearing a tunic)....and the cowl neck reminds me of some sweaters I had in college.  I guess it's true that the 80's are back....  What do you think?
